"You don't have to have yourself figured out to begin understanding yourself"
I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable being yourself with your therapist. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and explore the parts of yourself that may be difficult to make sense of on your own. I also believe that understanding why we think or behave a certain way is only the beginning. Our past experiences can shape the beliefs we develop about ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. Sometimes those beliefs continue to influence us even when they are no longer helpful. Therapy can help you understand where these patterns come from, identify what keeps them going, and learn how to respond differently.
Who I help
I primarily work with college students, young women, and adults who are navigating anxiety, self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing, relationship issues, family-of-origin patterns, identity issues, grief, emotional regulation, and major life transitions. I’m especially drawn to people who are thoughtful and self-aware but still feel emotionally stuck—even when they understand intellectually why they think or behave the way they do. You may know your patterns well, but still find yourself repeating them. You may understand where something comes from but not know how to change it. Or you may be trying to figure out who you are while balancing your own needs with the expectations of your family or culture.
My Approach
My therapeutic style is warm, supportive, reflective, and collaborative. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we can look at the beliefs you’ve developed about yourself, your surroundings and your experiences, where those beliefs came from, and whether they are still accurate or helpful. I also believe that not everything important is easy to put into words. When it feels helpful, I may incorporate creative and symbolic exercises to explore thoughts and emotions that can be difficult to access through conversation alone. My goal is not simply to help you understand yourself better. I want to help you take that understanding and turn it into meaningful change. My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, your relationships, and the life you want to build.
About
I’m Cindy Escobar, LMFT. As a first-generation American from a Guatemalan family, I understand the complexity of balancing cultural and family expectations with the desire to develop an identity that feels genuinely your own. I believe you can honor where you come from while still giving yourself permission to decide who you want to become. I bring warmth, curiosity, and playfulness into my work, and I want my clients to feel comfortable being honest with me, to be able to share the parts of themselves they don’t completely understand yet. My hope is to help you make sense of the patterns that have shaped you, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, and feel more confident making choices that reflect who you are and what matters to you.
